The Women’s Health Unit

The Women’s Health Unit has an 8 bedded delivery suite and a 22 bedded ante/postnatal ward. There are approximately 2000 births per year in the region.

As a progressive unit, they have been working on developing specialist roles such as Diabetes Midwife, Perinatal Midwife and Maternity Clinical Information Systems (MCIS) Midwife. They also have 24/7 Charge Midwife/ACM leadership and other midwifery leadership opportunities.

They are the only maternity unit in the country to introduce a new Induction of Labour Protocol which has dramatically reduced their caesarean section rates for women experiencing induction of labour. Their midwives work in partnership with women and their families/whanau, collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver effective care.

Hours of work will be up to full time working rostered and rotating shifts.

  • Post Graduate Health Assessment is preferred
  • Ability to clearly articulate surgical instructions to patients and family

PACU

PACU has a rotational roster that covers a 24/7 service.  Advanced life support skills are required for all nursing staff in this area and nursing staff are encouraged to complete a post-graduate Critical Care Course. 

Operating Theatre (Scrub Side)
Hours of work will be 40 per week, working rostered duties with overtime and on-call as required by the needs of the department. At least 2 years Operating Theatre (Scrub side) experience is required.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse in an acute secondary care facility – ideally with surgical ward or other acute experience e.g. Operating Theatre/Emergency/ICU
  • To be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
